7 Practices to Make Your Home Completely Disease-Free

Home is one place where we are supposed to feel the safest. While there might not be much danger of accidents, burglars, or wild animals, we often underestimate the power of invisible threats, bacteria and germs.

To make your home completely safe, it’s important that all germs are stopped and killed. While we think our houses are disease-free because we clean them regularly, germs and bacteria most likely still share the same roof with you.

Here is how you can ensure that you actually have a disease-free house

Clean the Washer

The laundry room is supposed to be the cleanest, and it looks clean, but it stores and cleans our dirty clothes full of germs. Clothes are most likely clean after they are washed, but you can’t say the same about the washer that cleaned them.

To make sure no germs in the washer can give birth to any diseases, you should also clean it once a month. Simply put one cup of bleach in the water, put it in the washer, and run it empty.

You will notice that the washer also looks much cleaner and feels much fresher.

Use White Towels

We use towels to clean our bodies, but more often than not, we are rubbing germs on them.

When we wipe our body with a towel, it absorbs germs and some dust in addition to the water. We use that dirty towel again without thinking about how many diseases might be living on it.

It doesn’t look dirty because it’s difficult to see any dirt in dark colors.

This is why you should only buy white towels. You will see the difference in its color every time you wipe your body. This way, you would know when it needs washing.

Make a habit of washing towels every week, even if they look clean. Furthermore, use different towels for the face, body, feet, and gym. Gym towels have a lot of absorbed sweat, and they need to be cleaned every day.

Wash Linens Every Week

It would be easier to tell if linens need cleaning if they were white, but we can’t ask you to only use white linens. Our bodies and clothes come in direct contact with them when we sit or sleep.

There are germs on our bodies and clothes even if we stay neat and clean. We sweat when we sleep, and most of it is absorbed by linens.

Since it can be difficult to tell from color if they need washing and you shouldn’t wait for the smell to tell you this, it’s best to wash them every week.

This specifically includes pillow covers.

You put your face on them, and if there is any dirt there, you will see its effect on your skin. Our hair are full of dirt and germs, and pillows get in direct contact with them every day.

Get Rid of Mosquitos

Malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya can be fatal, and all these diseases are caused by mosquitos. This little insect kills over one million people every year.

They seem harmless, and most of the time, their bites don’t cause much damage. However, there are a lot of types of mosquitoes, and each is deadlier than the other. One just shouldn’t take the risk of ignoring and letting them fly around and in the house.

Keep a mosquito killer in the house and kill them the moment you see them. Make sure there are no open containers of dirty water and keep the house clean to stop them from multiplying.

If you have this problem in your area, it’s best to take the help of professionals to spray mosquito killers in every corner of the house. These openly sprayed mosquito killer chemicals can be harmful to people and the environment. So, if you do decide to call professionals, make sure they use natural mosquito control methods.

Pay More Attention to Kitchen

Kitchens shouldn’t just look clean; they should actually be clean. And you have to be careful about the product you use for cleaning there.

When we talk about the kitchen, it doesn’t just mean the kitchen floor. It includes the worktop, silverware, containers, sink, cupboards, and anything you use there.

These things usually look clean because they are around the water near the sink. The only spots we see are also of edibles, which we consider safe. However, it’s important to clean them with the right products. And before you touch anything, wash your hands. Otherwise, you would be transferring germs from your hands to the food eaten by all your family.

Furthermore, keep everything in a closed container or cupboard.

Disinfect Knobs and Railings

Everyone in the house has to touch knobs and railings. This includes people from your family and guests.

They don’t sanitize their hands when they enter the house, and these places are often missed when cleaning the house. While all your family members should have a habit of keeping their hands clean before touching anything, you should disinfect all the doorknobs and railings in your house when possible.

This will stop and kill a lot of germs in your house.

Keep Shoes Outside the Living Areas

Your shoes come in contact with bacteria and germs when you go outdoors or in a restroom. An average shoe sole is covered with over 421,000 bacteria

This is why many Japanese families don’t enter the house with their shoes. They have separate indoor shoes that don’t have any outside dust or germs with them.

You need to follow the same rule.

You will need to buy a few shoes and shoe racks, but this will stop many diseases from entering your house. This will require flip flops for washrooms, comfortable slippers or sandals for living areas, and different types of shoes for outdoors that will stay outside on a rack.

You can also walk inside the house bare feet as long as it’s clean. The kitchen could have a wet floor, but you can use some water-absorbent rags to solve this problem.
