Tips and Strategies to Manage Anxiety and Stress

At some point, you will feel the effects of stress and anxiety on your body. There is just so much going on in the world around us that at some point, we will feel a bit anxious and stressed out trying to manage it all. The way that these both will manifest is different based on the person and the amount of anxiety the person feels.

The good news is that there are ways you can deal with some of the anxiety that may try to take over your life. And you should utilize them if you start to feel like anxiety is affecting your daily life and making it hard for you to be productive and get things done. Some of the tips and strategies that you can use to manage anxiety and stress include:

Take a Time Out

When you start to feel the stress and anxiety take over your life, it may be time for you to just take a break and walk away. We are told that we need to go hard all of the time and be rushing through all of the tasks at full blast, but this is probably what is causing a lot of the stress that we feel.

We need to get some of those ideas out of our heads and take a step back from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Instead, take a few minutes to do something that allows you to take a break. Learn some relaxation techniques, get a massage, meditate, listen to music, and practice yoga. You may find that stepping back from the problem is one of the best ways to clear your head.

Eat Balanced Meals

We may not think about it at the time, but the foods that we eat can have a big impact on how we feel and the amount of stress that we are under at any given time. When you eat a lot of unhealthy meals, the body is not getting the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and strong, making it weak and worn out. This can add more stress to your day.

On the other hand, eating balanced meals and a healthy diet can have the opposite effect. This kind of diet will provide you with all of the good nutrients that you need to be healthy and have energy to make it through the day. Try to eat a balanced diet as much as possible, do not skip meals, and keep healthy and energy-boosting snacks on hand.

Be Careful with the Caffeine and Alcohol

Many of us are relying on caffeine to keep us energized during the day, whether we have a stressful job or a bunch of kids to run around after. And then we get to the end of the day and we sit back with some wine or another alcoholic beverage.

The problem with this is that both of these have the ability to aggravate our anxiety and bring on panic attacks. If you are struggling with both of these, try cutting back on your caffeine or alcohol intake, or both, and see if that will help you feel better.

Get the Sleep You Need

Without enough sleep during the day, it is almost impossible to feel good and avoid stress. How well do you handle things the next day when you have been up all night and only got a few hours of sleep? You are adding more stress to your day and making yourself anxious if you do not get the sleep that you need.

Make sure that you get a good 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night. If something is going on in your life that makes you feel stressed out, then add a nice nap into the day. This can help the body recharge and feel good and will keep some of that anxiety away.

Exercise Each Day

Another thing that you can consider is getting enough exercise into the day. A good exercise program is going to release some of the feel-good endorphins that you need to help alleviate stress and feel so good in no time. Even a few minutes a day will make a big difference.

The key is to fit it into your schedule and find a workout that you really like. With the right program, you can fight away the stress, help to maintain your health, and start to feel good about yourself.

Consider Somatic Therapy

One method that you can use to help manage your anxiety and stress is somatic therapy. This is a unique type of therapy that will combine the mind, spirit, and body together to provide the best healing for the patient. The goal is to help treat many mental and emotional health issues by connecting the body and mind together, using a body-centric approach.

Unlike some of the other mental health therapy options that are available, somatic therapy wants to focus on the body and will utilize movement to help relieve stress as much as possible. Options like meditation, breathwork, and dance will help the patient to heal. There can also be mind-body exercises and talk therapy at these sessions.

When a patient goes through somatic therapy, the aim is to help them learn how to release the stress, trauma and tension that is inside the body, rather than just trying to resolve the problems verbally. This can really free up the body and releases stress where it is held the most.
